Taking a Break

"Taking a Break"

We'd been ride'n up on the plateau
Look'n fer a few old white face strays
Check'n all the little gullies and brush
Anywhere the feed might git them to stay!

I reckon it was about mid afternoon
When we rode out to the ridge
It overlooked the canyon and river
With only a distant rainbow fer a bridge!

We decided it was time fer a break
And let them o'le ponies catch their wind
I sat down on a big rock in awe
For the beauty of this place had no end!

Well, I sat there and ponder'd fer a while
Then told Bud, "God Must'a Been A Cowpoke At Heart"
Just look at what he gave us o'le boys
And Pard, this is only a start!
