Federal Way Resident Top Bidder in Artist Fred Oldfield Auction

PUYALLUP, WA, Sept. 27, 2005 - Leslie R. Ireland of Federal Way has a love for art, and has a range of styles proudly hanging in her home. On Sunday she enhanced that collection with the addition a stunning new original by nationally recognized western artist, Fred Oldfield. Ireland was the highest bidder in the auction that benefits the Puyallup Fair's Fred Oldfield Scholarship for the Arts.

The painting was on display in the Fine Arts Department on the second floor of the Pavilion during the Fair. It depicts a traveling pack train of horses with Mt. Rainier in the background, and measures 43-1/2 inches in height by 56 inches wide, including its frame.

The Puyallup Fair's Fred Oldfield Scholarship for the Arts is awarded to four graduating seniors from Rogers, Puyallup, Emerald Ridge and Sumner High Schools who have been involved in the study of the arts. They must demonstrate a serious pursuit towards a career in the arts. The students selected receive a scholarship of $1,000 to be used towards their first year of studies. Each year the scholarship is funded by the auction sale of the original painting done the previous year's Puyallup Fair.

The 2006 Puyallup Spring Fair will be held April 20-23 at the Puyallup Fairgrounds, followed by the Puyallup Fair, Sept. 8-24. For information call (253) 841-5045 or visit www.thefair.com.
