The Fred Oldfield Western Heritage & Art Center is dedicated to the preservation of Fred's dream of sharing his love of life, his Western Art, and the history of the American West. As an interactive learning center it celebrates and promotes this dream for all generations.
Part of our Vision is for Fred Oldfield to teach select classes and seminars, for him to share his painting techniques, his zest for life, his knowledge of survival in the art world and his incomparable gift of living life with a full cup.
Fred, himself will make numerous appearances in every class. He will also be available to answer questions while he is working in his bunkhouse/studio at the Center. However, he has entrusted his talented artist friends to help him teach students on a daily basis.
The Center invites students of all ages and economic situations. It offers scholarships to students
on merit not on academic achievement. Please call for information on the scholarships available.
We do require that all students help support our nonprofit organization by first becoming a Fred Oldfield Western Heritage & Art Center Member. Regular and inexpensive annual memberships are available for Seniors and Students for $20, Adults for $30, and Families (two adults and all kids under 18) for $45. With this membership you will receive: Invitations to Previews and Special Events and a 10% Discount in the Center Store as well as the quarterly news letter. For those only interested in attending art classes we do offer at a discounted season fee of $10 per art student. The discounted $10 Art Student membership is good from October through June but does not include Invitations to Previews and Special Events nor any discount in our Heritage Center Store.
Our classes focus on learning the 7 Elements of Design (line, shape, form, color, value, texture, and space) and how they are used in art. We do this through fun projects that explore various art mediums.
For the older kids we also introduce the 7 Principles of Design (balance, movement, rhythm, contrast, emphasis, pattern, and unity). We allow the kids to explore these principles by doing works of art in many different art mediums.
For our beginning as well as intermediate teens and adults we teach more advanced techniques using watercolors, oils on canvas, and other art mediums, all while emphasizing the 7 elements and prin-ciples of design.
Every class is different from week to week! Some days we will focus on a technique and do various studies to emphasize this technique. Other days we will incorporate one of our elements or principals of design into a 3-Dimensional craft project!
