The Fred Oldfield Western Heritage Center welcomes you to the 2009 Fiddler's & Pickers Contest with over $1700 in cash prizes available to the winners. The judges lending their expertise to this event will be the well known and respected Earl Calvert, Drew Konzelman and Lyn Neal.
This contest is coordinated with the Washington Old Time Fiddlers Association; District 8, and will be conducted over the course of two days (Friday, 13 November and Saturday, 14 November) and any fiddler or picker is eligible and welcome to register and participate.
Alaska Airlines is helping us out and has generously donated Two Round Trip Tickets to be Raffled by the FOWHC to anywhere Alaska flies to benefit the Festival. These Raffle Tickets can be purchased at the Heritage Center or call at 253-445-9175.
Friday, 13 November, we will offer workshops. Each will be approximately 1 hour and are designed for intermediate level (or above) players. Participants are encouraged to bring their instrument, a recording device and plan to have fun! Cost for each is $15.00 per individual, with a maximum of 25% discount for additional family members ($11.25 for each additional family member), and does not include admission to anything else. For Participants already registered for the Fiddle Contest as well as back up players, the cost is discounted to $5.00 for each workshop participant. Groups interested in attending the class should contact the center, or contest manager for group discounts.

Friday, 13 Nov, 4:00 PM -- Jim Ketterman's Appalachian fiddle tunes

Friday, 13 November, will also offer an afternoon Variety Show beginning at 1:00 PM and finishing up at 3:00 PM. Our Friday Afternoon Concert is a special event honoring Senior Citizens (55 years of age and older) and their cost is only $8.00. All others may attend but their cost for Fri afternoon would be $10.00 and $7.50 for children under 12.
Entertainment Division and Beer Tasting.
This division will allow any groups/ individuals to perform, judged by local community judges and the audience.Show starts at 7pm. Rules for the Entertainment Division are located through this link. (The Friday Night Entertainment Showcase Rules are also available as a PDF file at this link.)
