Fiddle & Pickers Contest and Festival

August 8th and 9th, 2008

The Fred Oldfield Western Heritage Center welcomes you to the 2008 Fiddler's & Pickers Contest with over $1700 in cash prizes available to the winners. The judges lending their expertise to this event will be the well known and respected Ramon Selby, Liddy Voetberg and Marty Dahlgren.

This contest is coordinated with the Washington Old Time Fiddlers Association; District 8, and will be conducted over the course of two days (Friday, 8 August and Saturday, 9 August) and any fiddler or picker is eligible and welcome to register and participate.

Friday, 8 August, we will offer three workshops. Each will be approximately 1 hour and are designed for intermediate level (or above) players. Participants are encouraged to bring their instrument, a recording device and plan to have fun! Cost for each is $10.00 per individual, with a maximum of $30.00 per family, and includes entry in to the fiddle contest and grounds on August 9, 2008. For Participants already registered for the Fiddle Contest as well as back up players, the cost is discounted to $5.00 for each workshop participant with a maximum of $15.00 per family per class.

The three workshops are:
Friday, 8 Aug, 11:00 AM -- Jim Ketterman's Appalachian fiddle tunes
Friday, 8 Aug, 12:30 PM -- Dale Olson’s Hot licks for the guitar
Friday, 8 Aug,   6:30 PM -- Lyn Neal's 2 Swing Tunes on fiddle

Friday, 8 August, will also offer an afternoon Variety Show beginning at 2:00 PM and finishing up at 4:00 PM. Our Friday Afternoon Concert is a special event honoring Senior Citizens (55 years of age and older) and their cost is only $5. All others may attend but their cost for Fri afternoon would be $7.50 and $5 for children under 12.

Saturday is the day of the Fiddle Contest itself along with an evening variety show. Friday evening's performance offers a discounted ticket for Senior Citizens (55 years of age and older). Costs for the evening performance are $7.50 for Seniors and children under 12 and $10.00 for all others. The featured group for Saturday night is Hank and Eulaine Blumenthal's Ozark Music, starting off with Rocking HW. All Fiddle Contest Winners are invited to play in the evening show. Show times will be announced when firmed up.
